“I’ll never forget Kat for the rest of my life! She helped me achieve a VBAC and, on top of that, the whole birth was just a beautiful experience. We did our birth prep class with her as well and felt well prepared. My mind was able to relax in the hospital because I knew she had a handle on all the medical things that may arise as well as ideas for positions and tricks she helped with. She was so calm and steady, funny, encouraging, communicative and dependable for the whole journey, and we're so happy she was part of our birth. After a traumatic C-section delivery with our first baby, her presence and our experience has been just the greatest gift. I don't know if we could have had our success without her!”

“Our experience with Kat was nothing short of spectacular. We felt supported through every moment. Our ‘birth plan’ went out the window thanks to a breech baby, however having the support of Kat made all the difference in both figuring out how to proceed with each curveball, and coming to terms with a birth that looked the opposite of everything we envisioned. I truly credit her with having a peaceful, beautiful birth experience despite what could have been a traumatic experience.”

“Kat was an integral part of welcoming our second baby into the world. She was exactly what my partner and I needed and hoped for. Kat held space for the emotional support I needed during the last trimester - a sometimes tricky waiting game! During the birth itself, Kat’s voice and reassuring eyes were the ones I turned to in moments of searching. She helped immensely in early labor with positional suggestions, as we suspected some movement was needed to help the baby fully engage. During some of the hardest stages of pushing, it was Kat’s hands and arms that held me. She was such a safe, grounding presence throughout the whole experience. Not to mention, Kat is just a total joy to be around. She’s gentle, hilarious, so knowledgable, and makes you feel at ease. We’re so grateful she was part of our birth.”

“Wow. My husband and I’s experience with Kat made me a forever advocate for doula support. She supported us throughout two very different pregnancies and births and truly was a part of our TEAM. Kat’s demeanor, expertise, and overall attitude and presence put us at such east to ask questions and share preferences about our labor hopes without any fear of judgement. She toed the beautiful line of professionalism, promptness, and boundaries while still being so warm and personal. I felt like Kat truly supported both my husband and I and really empowered him to support me! She helped translate medical jargon in the hospital when necessary and ensured we were aware of what was happening even when nurses or doctors were more quiet. I could fill pages with our love and appreciation of who Kat is and how she carries herself as a doula. I am so thankful we got to work with her twice and have so much joy thinking of future families that will benefit from her presence in their birthing journeys. The best.”

We are so glad to have had Kat as a resource during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. As a first time mom, it was so helpful to be able to ask Kat questions throughout pregnancy and contextualize what I was hearing from my doctor and other sources.
Kat was a phenomenal support person during labor. Although birth threw us a few curveballs, I was able to remain calm and, looking back, I feel confident in the decisions we made. Much of that was due to Kat making sure that we knew our options going into birth and in the moment!

Kat is wonderful. Our experience with Kat for our son's birth last November was nothing short of amazing, fulfilling, supportive, and positive. When meeting Kat, her demeanor was calm, soothing, and caring -- All 3 being characteristics you'd want in someone you'll confide in as part of your birth story. Kat is intuitive and methodical throughout her process and leads with passion, love, and curiosity. Her interest in our birth preferences was at the forefront of everything she did and once that was established, she provided guidance based on our needs and interests. The birth itself is when the extra support was needed most and she played a significant role in helping me (as well as my husband) maintain a calm mindset through a quite turbulent birth process leading up to the seconds just before he was born. Kat even snapped a series of photos of the first moments holding our son that we would never have had otherwise. They are some of our most treasured images of him as a newborn. We could not recommend your services enough, Kat. Thank you so very much for everything you helped us with. **You are making the right decision choosing Kat as your doula.

Kat provided exactly the support we needed welcoming our twins, and feeling empowered even through having a high risk (and therefore highly medicallized) pregnancy and delivery meant many changes to the "plan" I had in mind when I first hoped to get pregnant. Kat always used inclusive language, was nonjudgemental and easily accessible when we had questions or concerns. Can't say thanks enough!

“My partner and I hired Kat Adams to help us through the birth of our daughter. I wanted an unmedicated birth and I don't think I would have been successful without Kat by my side assisting my partner in helping me cope with my contractions. She brought a wealth of knowledge about different labor positions to try at different times and was hands-on in providing counter-pressure during my labor. She was easy to contact and replied quickly by text when I had questions, both before and after birth. I cannot recommend her enough.”

We loved Kat! As first timers, there was a lot of anxiety in not knowing what to expect. She was always available for questions/concerns and lots of support throughout my pregnancy. During the birth process at VUMC, the medical staff is often in and out of the room. We were so grateful that Kat was a source of continuity and provided a constant calming presence that really eased any anxiety. If you’re on the fence about getting a doula, definitely do it. And check out Kat Adams!”

“It was one of the best decisions of my life to have Katherine Adams (Kat) supporting us in pregnancy and at the birth of our first baby in May 2021. Her guidance was so helpful and kind as she answered every email and text question I had. Her expertise for the sessions to help create a birth plan helped set expectations and guided me to make my own decisions and trust my body. We had a natural birth and I could not have done it without her ideas for positions, encouragement, and non anxious presence for both myself and my spouse. Thank you Kat and the East Nashville Doula team, I'm so grateful.”

“We could not be more satisfied with our experience working with Kat Adams. Meeting with Kat ahead of our baby’s arrival helped us to feel prepared and more aware about what to expect. Most of all, we appreciated Kat’s calming presence and reassurance throughout labor and delivery. Our baby came earlier and quicker than expected, and we are so grateful that Kat was there to provide the support we needed.”

“We hired Kat for the arrival of our first baby, and she was an immense help! She was very easy to connect with, and we felt comfortable with her right away. Our meetings ahead of time helped my partner and I feel more prepared for the birth, and when it came time for the big day, she was great encouragement and support. She also volunteered to take pictures - which I didn't even know I wanted, but I now hold very dear! Highly recommend Kat if you are considering a doula!”

“Cannot thank Kat enough for the support provided before, during, and after the birth of our first child. We truly felt that Kat went above and beyond in making us feel heard, supported, and comfortable during one of the most emotional experiences of our lives.
Not much in our birth plan went as expected and Kat was able to provide invaluable practical guidance and support based on her experience and knowledge regarding our personal preferences which allowed us to make many difficult — but informed —decisions along the way. We intended for a natural birth at a birthing center, but ended up getting an unplanned induction at the hospital due to size concerns and ultimately an emergency c-section — obviously neither of which we contemplated in our initial birth plan. Having Kat in our corner to be our guide and advocate along the way was truly invaluable. While this was far from what we envisioned, Kat assisted us in adjusting to every twist and turn along the way and never once did we feel forced or judged into making a decision.
One of the first things we were told is a doula is just as much for the husband/support person as it is the mother — and we can confirm that the trust and sense of calm that is provided by having a familiar face who understands your preferences who can also be an objective and non-judgmental sound board provided a sense of calm amidst what at times felt like chaos.
We are so incredibly thankful for Kat and for the role she played in the birth of our son. We would absolutely recommend Kat to anyone considering a doula.”

“Hiring Kat to be our doula was the best decision we could have made. Her patience, expertise and guidance was invaluable and made our pregnancy and birth experience so much better. Today is my son’s first birthday and today Kat is on my mind. Our pregnancy didn’t play out as expected but because of Kat our memories of that day are filled with positivity and love.”

“Kat was an amazing doula! She was always responsive and knowledgeable about whatever questions I had. I had a lot of anxiety while I was pregnant and she always made me feel heard and supported. She has also been a great postpartum resource!”

“We will be using Kat as our birth doula and she has been phenomenal. Kat is patient, humble, and extremely knowledgable about all things birth, postpartum, and more. Can't thank her enough for being such a great resource throughout my first pregnancy.
update:
We recently worked with Kat as our birth doula and are excited to share that our little baby girl made her debut a few weeks ago. From beginning to end, Kat was phenomenal to work with. We met with Kat twice during my pregnancy to prepare for birth and she was a resource for us throughout, responding to all of our questions! Kat was knowledgeable, professional, and clearly very passionate about her work. Understanding the different things that could occur during birth was most important to us. Kat spent a significant amount of time educating us on interventions, options, and different scenarios so that we could feel confident and informed when I went into labor. We can't imagine our birth experience without her! She supported us through every twist and turn during labor and was especially helpful for my husband by providing reassurance and comfort throughout the process. We can't recommend Kat enough, and anyone would be incredibly lucky to have her support at their birth!”

“It's been 2 months since we had our baby boy and continue to talk about how grateful we are for Kat.
Hiring Kat was one of the best decisions we've made and are so thankful to have had her support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. As first time parents we needed help navigating the multitude of birth options and treatments to help find the one that fit our needs best. From our first meeting Kat met our needs by thoughtfully answering our questions, providing resources, and checking in to see how we were feeling.
Kat was able to explain the different options clearly in a way that made us feel empowered and knowledgeable about all aspects. Kat's non-judgmental approach helped us feel safe to choose the options that worked best for us.
During the birth Kat was such a wonderful presence, she helped both of us stay calm and focused on the important things. Having her with us gave us such comfort.
Kat allowed us to feel confident, supported, and able to be vulnerable with all of the hard parts. We can’t recommend Kat enough and will forever be grateful that she was a part of our son's birth! We just adore her!”

“When I found out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted a doula present during my birth. Kat was great, she was very supportive about what I wanted and gave me credible information when I had questions about my pregnancy and labor. For example, during one of our meetings, I told her I was having bad side aches and back pain. She taught my husband and I some exercises to help alleviate the pain and they worked great. Unfortunately, at 41 weeks I had to get induced. Kat was very supportive and gave me some advice on handling an induction. The induction didn't go as planned and I almost needed an emergency C-section. During the process, Kat was always calm and explained the process to me. Her calming presence helped me relax and helped me feel in control of the situation. Although I ended up getting an epidural, Kat was not judgmental and was supportive of my decisions. I highly recommend Kat!”

“I highly recommend Kat Adams.
Kat is an amazing doula. We clicked well because her skills and gifts were well-matched to my needs. I was pretty anxious about the pending delivery given some complicating factors (I was high risk and needed induction, but was terrified of a C-section outcome). Her knowledge base put me at ease and made me trust her straight-away. Her disposition -- friendly, warm, and very easy to talk to, and not overbearing or expecting me to talk a lot if I didn't want to -- made me feel even more at ease. I wanted a doula in part because we live far away from family and long-time friends, and I felt that Kat's presence really did meet the social and emotional needs I had from feeling on our own as a new family. Looking back after having my second child recently after we moved to another state (and thus couldn't have her services again), I am filled with even more gratitude for how spectacular of a doula Kat is and what a privilege it was to have her as our doula.”

“I began working with Katherine in the second trimester of my second pregnancy in July 2018. It was a planned home birth with a midwife. She was an encouraging & reassuring presence throughout. She checked in with me periodically to inquire about any challenges (physical/emotional/work-related) I might be facing; this was really valuable in preparing both practically and mentally for the birth. On the day of the birth, she was wonderful support to me & my husband. She was confident, calm and reassuring. Katherine is very intuitive; she knew when to observe & when to suggest something to change the energy or help labor progress (and it was always a helpful suggestion); she knew when it was time to call the midwife to come and how to help me cope as the labor became more intense. She worked very well with the rest of the birth team (midwife & midwife assistant). I feel she was an integral part of my birth experience. Although cliche, I truly feel I could not have done it without her support. She continued to reach out to us in the postpartum period to ensure we were adjusting to life with the baby. Katherine is passionate about birth work and empowering women. She is wise, confident and encouraging. I would highly recommend her.”

Kat supported my partner and throughout our pregnancy. She understood our needs, personalities, and provided evidence based information to guide our birth preferences and decisions. She was an invaluable resource and support to our family and an integral part of us having the labor and delivery experience we wanted.

“Katherine was the doula I needed; she was quiet, calm, and attentive. She was available via text and phone (and in person) before delivery and helped me with suggestions on getting baby into a good position (a la spinning babies). When labor started, she was in touch throughout and was a good resource for the hardest question for first-time parents: when should we leave for the hospital??? During my labor, she was always by my side, helping me with whatever I needed--cool towels, water, encouragement. She suggested different positions and helped rub my back and hips during the really painful periods. The best part of having her present, however, was after the delivery. She stayed for a long time, helping me eat, drink and recover. This allowed my husband to simply relax with me and enjoy our new baby. It was a really special time, and it was so helpful having someone there to help with the little things. I highly recommend Katherine if you are introverted like me and want someone who is a calm, strong (but not overbearing) presence.”

“I found Kat on Doula Match and she made all the difference at my birth! Not to mention the face-to-face consultation, two prenatal in-home visits, and the postpartum session (luckily on Zoom due to social distancing).
Kat offered to meet me at a place of my choosing (Starbucks!) to talk about what I wanted out of my birth experience and to inform me more about her services. I wanted someone who I saw as a peer and a friend, and I definitely felt that vibe from Kat! She is refreshingly genuine, a calm listener, and she is up-to-date with her birthing knowledge. This was invaluable to me as a first time momma.
During our prenatal sessions we talked about things to do during pregnancy to prepare for labor, what to expect during labor, how my husband could support me, and what she would be doing as a doula to support me. Kat also supported me mentally and emotionally, encouraging me to write down my fears and de-stress regularly.
When the time came for my baby girl to make her appearance, Kat was available by text and phone call until I really needed her extra support during labor. Fortunately, even with Covid-19 on the loose, Kat was able to show her credentials to the screening people at the hospital entrance and make her way to L&D. Doulas are a part of the birthing team!!! She was able to make suggestions for when I couldn't think what labor position to try next. She helped me make decisions about pain control and other interventions. She held my hand, massaged my back, reminded me to eat ice chips in between pushes and was on the other end of the rope in tug-of-war while I pushed. She gave my husband suggestions of how to help me cope and she took the first picture of my new family. She helped me latch my baby girl to feed for the first time.
I am so thankful I chose her to be my doula!
If you are on the fence about hiring a doula, I would highly recommend it, but I especially recommend Kat Adams!”
